I had a long discussion with Cloner about this. At the end of the day I got my money back afer three months so I'm only out of pocket to the tune of 15% of my original payment in the costs chasing my refund. I can unequivocally prove I've been lied to in this thanks to traceable post records on both sides. Scott suggested posting both sides up for you guys to make your own minds up on. The downside of this is that you have to try and filter the truth from the lies and it gets very difficult if misinformation and unrelated information is mixed in. I agreed with Scott to put my situation up here to encourage vigilance and if you like, hope some will learn from my mistakes and that was an end to it even though personally I agree with both Aussie_bevel and Oppie....

I would also encourage you to name and shame any person or organisation you have bad dealings with.

It's the only way to make them lift their game. And if they decide not to lift their game then they will just start losing business and friends.

Plus if you got ripped off by someone on this website, all the more reason to name them.

Me personally, I suggest any bastard that rips off a fellow member of this site should have their access removed.

I've had nothing but positive exepriences with members here, lets keep it that way by flicking the dishonest ones.

thats my 2 cents worth

If you have been without doubt screwed by a member here post 'em up and let us know because you might not be the only one who's been ripped off. The grievance doesn't have to be a flame war but just stick to the facts. I'm on a dirt bike forum that has a sticky section for this covering ebay, individuals and retail outlets and the screen names they hide behind. It also very helpful because someone who knows someone in the area usally knows of these arsewipes and can point people in the right direction about getting parts or money back. I like pay pal myself, within PAyPAl you can send money as a gift which has reducded commission. As a buyer i will not send money outside those parameters, sorry to say but tough shit for the seller (yes i have been one) its about protecting the reputation and confidence people have in Pay pal. If you don't like it organise it yourself and take the risk.
Back to the main point though, post up the shonks for all to see.

Shaun, I clearly didn't say "all" and I'm not tarnishing all so let's not escalate this out of proportion. It is however not "zero" and so the point is valid. Your comment on ebay is what differentiates you as a good seller and that's something that can be checked as a resource by the buyer. Again it's subjective however it all helps for the buyer to make a personal judgement about his seller. 1300+ feedback rating with 100% positive clearly marks you out as a fair trader so credit where it's due - I wish it had been you selling me the parts I wanted, that's unquestionable!

I fully agree with you on Paypal front - it's a balance of risk at the end of the day. Do you accept a charge to protect your piece of mind? Sometimes it's worth it. I cited Paypal as an example, certainly not the best option. Recently I did some charity work and ebay and paypal both took percentages off me from the charitable funds and neither would return the charges which amounted to £1000+. There's no ideal solution, you as an individual have to decide what's right for you.

There is no hard and fast general catch all that will protect you in distance buying, I have shared my experience for general information. If it saves one person getting ripped off in the next 10,000 transactions, then it's been worthwhile. Thankfully most people deal with others how they want to be treated themselves and that makes almost all transactions a pleasure to complete. Hopefully this information will further decrease those handful of bad situations to almost nothing.

Thank you for your advice. I will however like to add DONT TARNISH ALL WITH THE SAME BRUSH. Its unfortunate youve had a bad experience... BUT. Lets take me as an example ive got over 1333 ebay stars and 100% feedback for the entire 8plus years ive been on ebay....ive just sold lots and lots of MH bits worldwide... Most paid by paypal. To which I PAY THROUGH THE NOSE TO RECIEVE...its not me who recieves the protection its the buyer.... So why should the seller have to pay extra for this...
Also on items that are over £1k ive speculated no paypal only bank transfer....well on an item selling for £2.5k why should i pay £50 selling fees and ANOTHER £200-300 paypal charges. NO WAY... So item is bank transfer or i prefer the buyer does not bid. Unless he wants to pay MY paypal charges for an insurance service that he is recieving.......

We are not all crooks, and i would happily sell any MH part to any MH owner worldwide and not have the slightest thought about ripping anyone off....

Yes ,draw caution to the wind and try to buy off someone who has good standing, but please dont all be put off by the post above..

Thanks.

At the end of last year I was looking for some parts for my MH900e so put a request out on the internet to see if anyone knew of a shop source for the parts. Having been offered the parts I was looking for by a fellow forum member, what followed was a three month battle to avoid losing my money so I thought I'd share a few thoughts about internet trading and particularly the apparent safety of trading with seemingly like minded individuals you share an interest and forum membership with...

Firstly, never get carried away. Finding that elusive part is a real buzz but don't let that excitement cloud your judgement or your common sense. Check things out before you pay. A lot of forum members use the same id on other forums and on ebay. Go take a look at their contributions elsewhere and review their ebay feedback. I find the way people deal with disputes is a good way of assessing their personal values. Look at the negative feedback volumes, problems and responses. It is usually very telling.

When paying for goods offered on the internet, make sure you use traceable means of payment. Paypal is slated but they act as a credit card provider on your behalf so you can always recover money through them if the seller doesn't provide the goods you paid for. DO NOT Pay by Bank Transfer unless you know what and how the banking system works well enough that you can legally prove payments are made and received. DO NOT send cash or use Western Union transfers etc that act like cash. Always use a traceable method.

If you are UK based, any time up to and for 7 days after the receipt of goods, you can write to the seller and request a refund for the return of your goods. Under distance selling regulations they have to provide a FULL refund of all money you paid them within thirty days of your written request by law. Failure to do so means you can recover the money through legal action.

If someone has promised to post you something, they are accountable for getting the goods to you. The postal service or courier they use is sub-contracted to them under UK law and they must take appropriate precautions to make sure the item gets to you or is insured at a suitable level so that if it's lost, you can get your money back in full. If they claim to post anything to you using recorded delivery or special delivery services, signed for or tracked, they must be able to give you the tracking number. If they can't provide that, they haven't sent you anything or they only used standard postal services.

So what happens if you don't get your goods, don't get a refund and the supplier won't return your calls, emails or personal messages thorugh forums and ebay? Firstly, log an incident with the local police and also the Trading Standards helpline (08454 040506). Both will treat the problem as a Civil Law matter but may perform investigations of their own.

Then you begin the long process of trying to reason with the supplier to do the decent thing and return your money. You do this by sending three Special Delivery letters to them and state what you wanted to buy, what you have or haven't received and what course of action you want - i.e. goods returned or refund. Allow about 4 weeks between letters - they have to have a reasonable tme to respond. Assuming you get no response, the third letter should state that if you get no resolution by a deadline in the future, you will take them to court to recover your money and that includes interest and all expenses - court fees, postage costs etc.

This is now very easy to do using the www.direct.gov.uk money claim service online and you may be able to make use of this as an overseas buyer as well. The court process then takes over. The good thing is that if the court rule in your favour and the supplier still refuses to pay up, Money Claim Online offers a follow on service where you can send the bailiffs in to their property to recover suffient goods to auction such that you recover your money and all costs. Hopefully the supplier will see sense a long time before that and everything will get resolved.

So - what of dealing on a forum like ours? The sad thing is that even in a small community like this there are people who will happily offer you something and then fail to honour the contract you make with them. Just because you share an interest, doesn't mean the other person will treat you with respect, behave fairly, tell the truth or honour any contracts you make so do the checks I suggest above and keep your wits about you. Forum membership sadly doesn't bring any character guarantees with it. Not everyone who offers to help you out is your friend....as demonstrated by the following little story:

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold, the bird froze and fell to the ground in a large field. As the frozen bird lay there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on it. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, it began to realise how warm it was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him! The Morals to this story are: 1) Not everyone who drops shit on you is your enemy. 2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend. 3) When you're in deep shit, keep your mouth shut.

I hope the stress, hassle and disappointent of my own dealings help inform others so that you don't get ripped off by unscrupulous suppliers. Do the checks and protect your payments folks - trade safely!

QB are working on the top plate for me now and will be making it in carbon twill so it matches the DP carbon as close as possible. I haven't asked for a recess for the number plaque as I didn't really see it as being interchangeable so have asked for the plain plate....will be interesting to see whatthey come up with and I'll post pictures when I can.

Hi Cloner,

I can see you've been super helpful emailing this out to people in the group. Maybe somebody else still has a copy? I would be very happy to setup a permanent download for us all if that is helpful. If somebody finds a copy would you mind forwarding along to me as well?

Best,

lordmoonpie on "CA Cycleworks battery tank - wiring?"

I finally completed the installation of my battery tank and all is well. The big challenge was wiring up the battery in the new tank and keeping the loom standard. Some of the wires are incredibly tight and it's taken about 4 goes to move electrical components to safe places where wires would reach. I complicated things by doing the oil cooler modification at the same time! This involved using some Ducati HM1000 oil lines and a 5 line oil cooler off ebay. I made some new spacers and moved the oil cooler valve cover to the upper cover between where the old batteries were. The old oil cooler valve cover is replaced with a standard one for now until I can get something a bit more bling :-)
In the original post on this modification, the erstwhile Simon Jeffries, Y996SPS junked his MH900e engine castings and I found out why - the HM1000 oil lines don't fit against the casting and you can't do them up with the casting in place. Not to be beaten, I sourced a hydraulic coupler 16mm M/F to act as an extension so that the oil lines don't foul the casting. Even then they have to be tightened up with the casting off so that the furthest right nut on the coupler lies perfectly flat on the bottom end and clears the casting by a hair's breadth. Once the casting is back on, you then have a final tweak to tighten the top oil line which brings the oil line bend over the front M6 casting bolt making it inaccessible until you loosen the oil line bolt again. So now the oil lines are in place, the tank is on and all is nearly well! The battery tank must have a minute difference in the placement of the filler neck compared to standard as when the bodywork is back on, the filler cap sits right to the left edge of the recess in the fibreglass making it look off centre. Nothing I do in terms of wiggling the bodywork changes that so I'd guess the filler is 2-3mm offset to the left compared to standard.
Having said that, it all looks very neat now the bodywork is back on and the area behind the front wheel is clutter free.

As with all these modifications passed on by word of mouth they are never as simple as the source makes out when you come to do them but I'm happy with the end result. I've uploaded four pictures starting with the oil line unions on photobucket if anyone wants to take a look... ;-)

Hello Guy,

Pleased to know your tribe! I'am Nicolas, I'am living in France, near the spanish border. My brother Fred and I are looking forward to buy an iconic ducation MHE...We really love sport and rare fantastic bikes...Basically, we should be closed to the madness (:

Feww years ago, we bought together a old CB 750 (1976 model), and we restaure it together. Great experience, definitively. After this first try, we decide to get an other iconic superbike : The Honda RC30 has joined our little "collection".

We love the rare bikes, and riding it of course, but we love also looking for the "good" bikes, take time to know the history of the model, understand what is so special, where were sold the 2000 models, ect...

We have seen together the MHE in a show in Paris, 3 or 4 years ago: Now, we want realise this new project together: We will buy the MHE:
We don't know exactly where and when, but we will do it (:

Next time, i will join some pictures of our bikes.

By the way, pleasde find hereby some MHE on sale in Europe, it could be interesting for some of us:

Also, it could be usefull to complete the "worlwide MHE list" (Great Idea this list (:)

For exemple: MHE Never ridden, no 668, located in Ireland:

http://classic-motorbikes.com/Ducati_MH900_evoluzione_Brand_new,_never_ridden!_FD39.html

An other, located in south of France; no 1888:

http://www.leboncoin.fr/motos/263460606.htm?ca=12_s

And the third:

MHE 7000 KM, located in france, unknow number (but easy to call the owner...)

http://www.moto85.com/moto-occasion/moto-occasion-ducati_7700464/

70 MHE were sold in France, and approx. 700 machines in Japan! (Moto journal, french leader motorbikes magazine, no 1453, 4 january 2001)

Enjoy you bike guys, and have a good ride!!

PS: What do you think about our project ? (:

Simon's items are easy to find if you go to ebay UK rather than ebay US. If you put the item number in at ebay US you'll see the specific item, but nothing under the seller's other items tab. If you go to ebay UK you'll find it all!

Just a hint for those of you who are looking.
